A Rocket To The Moon – On Your Side

On Your Side

A Rocket to the Moon, a four-piece band from Braintree, Massachusetts, are releasing their new album “On Your Side” on October 13th. Contrary to Rocket’s old style of auto-tune and techno-esque music, “On Your Side” features a different kind of sound that can be compared to artists such as The Maine and Brighten.

The album opens with a song entitled “Annabelle.” This song has a straight-out-of-Disney intro, which made me somewhat dislike it at first, but it slowly became more enjoyable as time went by. Next is a melodically similar song called “Mr. Right.” The track contains a catchy chorus, but Santino’s voice sounds extremely edited and reminds me of his older style of music: very auto-tuned. Track three(She’s Killing Me), a humorous song about a boy who loves a girl even though she drives him crazy, shows some country influence on the album, along with the song “Baby Blue Eyes.”

The tracks titled “Where Did You Go” and “Give A Damn” are surely tunes that will get stuck in your head, as they both have great hooks and rhythm. The two are personally my favorite on the album. Then, “Like We Used To,” is introduced as a sappy song quite similar to the writing style of artists such as Taylor Swift, is a somewhat sad song that will hit the heart.  Unfortunately, Rocket takes a detour from the catchier songs on the album with “Life of the Party” and “Sometimes.” As soon as the song “Life of the Party,” started playing, I thought to myself, “Wait, I’m not supposed to be listening to Boys Like Girls…” Needless to say, I felt the track was out-of-place. “Sometimes” sounds like an attempt to show skills of alliteration, but comes off as vexatious repetition(a little like All Time Low’s ironically-titledToo Much, am I right?)

The final song, dubbed as homophone to the album, is opened with a charming piano introduction followed by an endearing chorus that seems to be an appropriate end to the band’s first full-length album. “You know that my love is On Your Side.”
