As the rest of the band got ready to play their first hometown show after being out on the road, I sat down with Jerry Pierce, guitarist for VersaEmerge, and asked him a few questions the fans wanted to know.

Preach Electric: First question, how did you all meet?
Jerry Pierce: How did we all meet, um. Anthony and Blake went to high school together, and they were in a blues band actually, for quite a while. And um, just had a few different bands, and started to metamorphosize if you will back there, and kind of picked us all up. By the way, I was actually in the band as the third guitarist like two years ago. Ended up leaving to go to law school, and came back. Yeah, definitely, definitely a different world. Then, actually when their old singer left, Sierra was uh, well she’s from St. Petersburg, so I think she myspaced them, and they tried her out and she was obviously awesome. Sp, that’s how that worked. And, I think they found Devin on one of their first tours. He was kind of like a replacement bass player, and ended up sticking around.

PE: What is your current ringtone?
JP: My current ringtone, oh shit. Um, I think it’s just the regular like default iPhone, [makes ringtone noise] that kinda thing.

PE: What’s your favorite show you’ve played so far?
JP: Favorite show we’ve played so far, I think the Give It A Name festival in London was definitely like the biggest and craziest show I’ve ever played. I don’t it was just like, kids over seas, or kids out of the country just go crazy, so it’s always a lot of fun to play for them. That was probably my favorite, somewhere in Europe.

PE: What is the nicest thing a fan has done for you, or given you?
JP: Oh jeeze, our fans are awesome. Like, our fans are nicer to me than my family is, so I don’t know. There was this one girl from New York somewhere, it was in… I think we played somewhere near Niagra Falls, anyway, she ended up getting us a hotel that had like a jacuzzi in it, so we were definitely stoked about that.

PE: What question have you always wanted to be asked, but never have been?
JP: Oh, that is an awesome question. Um… I feel like this is really hard [laughs]. Um, I don’t know, I don’t know. I kinda get, like every interview has like the, it’s funny, like the same generic, cookie cutter question that every interview asks. That I hate. And then there’s like a different last question. It’s always like, “What do you want to say to your fans?” Which I never know how to answer, or like um they’ll ask me what my favorite cereal is or something like that. I don’t know, I don’t know I can’t really think of something that I would like to be asked. I don’t mind anything, any question.

PE: What was the first show you went to?
JP: The first show that I went to, oh. This is embarassing. Alright, I went to see Tool with my sister, oh no no no it was A Perfect Circle. I went to see A Prefect Circle with my sister, and I was like thirteen I think. I went and there was like, it was sold out and it was like an arena because they were huge at the time. I remember getting there, and like not knowing what to expect because I’d never been to a concert before, and I was like ‘this is like Woodstock’. I remember thinking I was like, ‘everything I saw on TV, this is really how it’s like’. It was awesome.

PE: Is there any chance you’ll be playing the Reading and Leeds festival this year?
JP: The what is it?

PE: The Reading and Leeds festival in the UK.
JP: Um, I don’t know. I’m not sure. Actually, to be quite honest I have never heard of that. I don’t know, I’m just a dumb American though, so. Um, but honestly I have no idea until like the day of, where we’re playing. On tour I never know what day it is, or what city it is. I don’t know, I don’t pay attention. It’s more fun that way.

PE: If you could tour with one band, who would it be?
JP: Um, one band. I don’t know, I would love to go on tour with Fiona Apple, yeah that would be cool. Um, I’m not gay! But uh, I do like Fiona Apple. When the Pawn’s like one of my favorite records right now. So that would be awesome, to play a show or tour with her.
